APPLICATION

ZHR's section mill is a hydraulically activated tool to mill section of casing and tubing. ZHR designed the mill with an emphasis on simplicity, robustness, easy of maintenance, and easy of operation.Milling knives are dress with tungsten carbide inserts to provide extend milling footage with maximum penetrationrates.

The newly designed ZHR Section Mill offers unique design concepts. The downhole life of standard section mill is limited by the triangular blade profile in the openposition.This type of profile can makes milling casing collars difficult as the cutting blade wears during operation. Theprofile of the ZHR Section Mill designed is identical to that of a pilot mill. This profile allows the ZHR Section Mill to mill a full diameter for the entire life of the cutters. Milling casing collars are no longer a concern while using the ZHR Section Mill.

As with other hydraulic tools with arms, circulation though a restriction in the mill creates a pressure drop across a tube, which causes the tube to travel downward with the tool body. The downward travel and a tapered surface on the lower end of the tube force the cutting knives outward. The outward knife movement provides the cutting action into the inner surface of the casing. When cutout through the casing wall is achieved, the knives are fully supported into
their outermost position, and cutting proceeds in a downward direction on the upper face of the casing, immediately below the cutout point.
